An inspiring career readiness workshop that broadens horizons, challenges stereotypes, and helps every student see a future full of possibilities — through career exploration, skills discovery, and goal-setting challenges.
The Plan Their Future workshop tackles one of the biggest challenges in primary education — aspiration. Too many children can only imagine careers they've personally seen. This workshop expands their world, introducing careers they've never heard of, challenging gender and social stereotypes, and showing them the connection between what they're learning now and where it could take them.
Every session is adapted to your year group. Reception and Year 1 explore 'when I grow up' through stories, role-play, and dressing up. Year 2 and 3 discover a wide range of careers through matching games and 'day in the life' activities. Year 4 and 5 map their own strengths to career pathways and create future plans. Year 6 set goals, understand educational pathways, and write letters to their future selves.
Directly supports the 2028 Core Enrichment Entitlement — ensuring every pupil experiences careers and aspirations as part of their primary education.
The Core Enrichment Entitlement from September 2028 requires every primary pupil to experience careers and aspirations activities. Schools embedding career readiness now are ahead of the statutory requirements and building genuine aspiration in their students.
This workshop maps directly to the Plan Their Future skill in the Future Skills Passport programme. Book it as a standalone wow-factor day, or as part of your school's journey towards Bronze, Silver, or Gold accreditation.
Every activity is designed to build a different aspect of this skill. Your facilitator selects and adapts activities based on the year group.
An opening activity that expands horizons — students discover surprising careers they've never heard of, challenging the idea that there are only a few paths available. Interactive career cards and videos bring roles to life.
All year groupsTeams investigate different careers through stations — learning what people actually do in their jobs, what skills they need, and how they got there. Busts stereotypes about who does what.
All year groupsStudents identify their own strengths, interests, and qualities — discovering that the things they're already good at connect to real career pathways they might not have considered.
Year 2+Students map the journey from where they are now to where they want to go — understanding that secondary school, college, university, and apprenticeships are all valid routes.
Year 4+Teams research inspirational people from diverse backgrounds who've succeeded in different fields — learning that career success comes in many forms and from many starting points.
Year 3+Year 6 students write a letter to their future self — capturing their goals, fears, strengths, and hopes. A powerful, reflective closing that they can open years later.
Year 5 & 6Every session is designed around measurable outcomes that align with the National Curriculum and the Future Skills Passport framework.
