Relationships Education became statutory in all English primary schools in September 2020. Every primary must teach it as part of statutory PSHE Health Education. Yet the 2024 PSHE Association survey found that 73% of primary teachers said they felt "under-prepared" to deliver the relationships strand, and 82% said pupils "engage far more when an external facilitator leads it than when it's a slide-deck lesson".
That's the gap Spark2 fills. Our workshops give pupils a hands-on day of relationship-skills learning that they talk about at home, plus your teachers get a full follow-up lesson-plan pack for the weeks after we've been in.
The Department for Education splits primary Relationships Education into five statutory strands. Spark2 covers four of them directly through our Future Skills workshops. For the fifth — puberty / bodily changes — we honestly recommend specialist providers rather than pretending to be experts we aren't.
Covered via Look After Their Mind — pupils explore different family structures and what "care" means, with no assumptions about home life. Age-appropriate across EYFS to Year 6.
Covered via Look After Their Mind + Speak with Confidence — friendship skills, kindness, listening well, healthy disagreement, and knowing when to seek help from a trusted adult.

We don't teach this — it needs specialist RSE providers. We recommend Christopher Winter Project or Betty for Schools for age-appropriate puberty education.
Most primary schools we work with follow a year-plan pattern like this:
Autumn term: Kick off the year with Look After Their Mind (kindness, friendships, feelings vocabulary). Book for early autumn to set the tone. Anti-Bullying Week (16-20 November 2026) is a natural anchor with our dedicated ABW landing.
Spring term: Bring in Speak with Confidence (listening, disagreement, respectful conversation). Aligned to Neurodiversity Celebration Week (15-21 March 2027). Add AI Discovery for online-relationships work around Safer Internet Day (9 February 2027).
Summer term: Consolidate with Save a Life for personal-safety content and Mental Health Awareness Week (10-16 May 2027) for wellbeing.

Sex Education is NOT statutory at primary — schools decide whether and how to teach age-appropriate puberty content.
Spark2 covers the Relationships Education strands: kindness and friendships (Look After Their Mind), listening and disagreeing respectfully (Speak with Confidence), bystander action and anti-bullying (Look After Their Mind, Anti-Bullying Week), online-relationship safety and digital citizenship (Navigate the Digital World, AI Discovery). We do NOT deliver puberty or biological sex-education content — for that, we recommend specialist RSE providers.

Yes — many schools do. Our Anti-Bullying Week landing (November 10-14, 2026) uses the same Look After Their Mind workshop with an ABW-specific framing. Booking one workshop can cover both statutory Relationships Ed and your ABW WOW-day anchor.
Statutory Relationships Education cannot be opted out of at primary — that's a change from the pre-2020 framework. However any school-taught Sex Education (which is not statutory at primary) can be opted out of. Since Spark2 doesn't deliver Sex Education content, all our workshops fall within the mandatory Relationships strand and no parental opt-out applies.
