Rainforests

Step into the world's most biodiverse ecosystem. Students explore the layers of the rainforest through immersive VR — from the dark forest floor to the sunlit canopy — discovering the extraordinary plants and animals that call it home and why protecting this habitat matters.

What's Included

VR + Resources

Explore every layer of the rainforest

The Rainforests VR workshop immerses students in tropical rainforest environments that would be impossible to visit in person. Children explore the forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent layers through 360° virtual reality, encountering wildlife and understanding ecosystem interdependence.

KS1 students explore different animals and their habitats, comparing rainforest creatures with local wildlife. KS2 students investigate food chains, adaptation, biodiversity and the impact of deforestation. Every activity connects to National Curriculum science and geography objectives.

Book a full-day visit and choose a different VR topic for every year group — making it super specific to each class's curriculum and exceptional value for money.

VR Experience

VR Experience

Each session includes a Virtual Reality segment where students are transported into immersive environments. Using class sets of VR headsets, children explore 360° recreations of scientific environments — from standing on melting ice caps to walking among dinosaurs.

What Students Do

1

Amazing Amazon Rainforest

Explore the world’s largest tropical rainforest — home to one in ten of all species on Earth, including jaguars, pink river dolphins and poison dart frogs. Students discover why the Amazon is called the ‘lungs of the Earth’.

VR Scene
2

Rainforest Threats

See first-hand how human activity threatens rainforests — from deforestation for farming and cattle ranching to roads, mining and deliberate fires that destroy vast areas of habitat and biodiversity.

VR Scene
3

Why Rainforests Matter

Discover why protecting rainforests is vital for the whole planet. They absorb CO2 to control our climate, contain undiscovered medicines, and are home to indigenous peoples who have lived there for thousands of years.

VR Scene
4

Bush Fires

Witness how warmer, drier conditions make wildfires spread more easily across the Amazon, US and Australia — destroying forests, animal habitats and making survival harder for countless species.

VR Scene
5

Deforestation

Experience the devastating impact of cutting down too many trees — fewer trees absorb CO2, habitats are destroyed, and while logging brings short-term income, it often harms the environment and communities long-term.

VR Scene
6

Animals Under Threat

Travel across continents to see wildlife under pressure — koalas losing homes in Australia, sloths and jaguars suffering in the Amazon, elephants threatened in Africa, and bears affected in North America.

VR Scene
7

Human Impact: Pollution

Explore how water pollution from fertiliser run-off, air pollution from fossil fuels and land pollution from landfill sites all damage ecosystems, harm wildlife and affect human health across the planet.

Learning Outcomes

Habitat and ecosystem knowledge

Students understand what a habitat is and how different organisms depend on each other.

Biodiversity awareness

Students appreciate the extraordinary variety of life in rainforests and why it matters.

Food chains and webs

Students can construct food chains and explain energy flow through an ecosystem.

Environmental responsibility

Students understand human impact on ecosystems and what conservation means in practice.

"When the children looked up in VR and saw the canopy hundreds of feet above them, you could see the scale click. One Year 4 girl said 'I had no idea the trees were this tall.' That spatial understanding is something pictures and videos just can't give you."
