VR-enhanced World War 2 workshops for primary schools. Shelter from the Blitz. Walk onto the D-Day beaches. Read evacuee letters home. Celebrate VE Day. Spark2’s most-popular history workshop — and the school day pupils still talk about months later.
WW2 isn’t a single date in the calendar — it’s three of them, plus universal KS2 curriculum demand the rest of the year. Whichever moment your school is building around, we’ll match the workshop to it.
The biggest WW2-adjacent moment in the school calendar. Every primary marks it — assemblies, two-minute silences, poppy art. Our workshop turns the week of Remembrance into something pupils carry beyond the silence.
The international day of remembrance, marking the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945. We deliver age-appropriate content for Y5/Y6 — focusing on Anne Frank, the Kindertransport and the importance of speaking up against prejudice.
Victory in Europe Day — marked every May, with milestone years (80th, 90th, 100th) especially significant. VR puts pupils into the street parties of 1945. Great for summer-term project work.
WW2 is the most-chosen KS2 history theme in UK primaries. Schools book us in autumn, spring or summer for whole-term project launches, anchor days and topic finales.
Spark2’s WW2 workshop uses immersive VR, replica artefacts and drama-based investigation to put pupils inside the experience of the war. They don’t just hear about the Blitz — they shelter from it. They don’t just read about D-Day — they stand on the beach as the landings begin. They don’t just learn about VE Day — they celebrate it.
Every session is adapted by year group. Y3 and Y4 focus on age-appropriate daily life in wartime — rationing, evacuation, the Home Front — without dwelling on combat. Y5 and Y6 take on the bigger themes: causation, civilian resilience, the home front vs the battlefield, the legacy. Hands-on activities include real ration books, evacuee role-play, Anderson shelter exploration, and wartime code-breaking.
Perfect for Remembrance Day (November), Holocaust Memorial Day (January), VE Day anniversary (May), or as the centrepiece of a Y5/Y6 theme study any time of year.
The National Curriculum requires KS2 schools to deliver “a study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066”. WW2 — particularly the Battle of Britain, the Home Front and the Blitz — is the most-chosen option in UK primary schools.
Your facilitator selects the right depth and pacing for the year groups in the room. Book a full day and choose a different VR topic for every class — making the day specific to each year group’s curriculum.
A VR journey through a British home in the early 1940s. Pupils explore rationing, daily routines, blackout blinds, and how families coped with wartime restrictions. The perfect introduction for Y3/Y4 and the empathy-building anchor for Y5/Y6.
VR ExperienceHands-on investigation of WW2 equipment — replica gas masks, ration books, ID cards, evacuee labels, soldier’s letters home. Pupils handle the objects of war and discover what each one tells us about the people who used them.
Hands-OnPupils step into a VR Anderson shelter as the sirens sound. They experience the cramped conditions, hear the distant bombs, and understand what it was actually like to spend a night underground. Followed by code-breaking activities inspired by Bletchley Park.
VR ExperienceFor Y5/Y6: a powerful VR scene depicting the D-Day landings, providing age-appropriate insight into the strategies, bravery and challenges faced by Allied forces in this pivotal moment. Sensitively delivered, with discussion built in.
VR Experience · Y5/Y6Pupils experience the joyous atmosphere of VE Day in immersive VR — the bunting, the street parties, the church bells ringing across Britain. The relief, the unity, the way an exhausted country finally exhaled. The perfect emotional close to the day.
VR ExperienceEvery session is designed around measurable outcomes that align with the National Curriculum and build the historical thinking skills KS2 inspections look for.
Pupils understand the daily experiences of ordinary people during WW2 — rationing, evacuation, the Blitz — and the resilience it took to live through it.
Pupils place WW2 events in chronological order — outbreak, Blitz, D-Day, VE Day — and understand cause-and-effect relationships across the war.
Pupils develop empathy for those who lived through the war — soldiers, evacuees, parents, the persecuted — through age-appropriate immersion in their experiences.
Pupils understand how WW2 shaped modern Britain — the welfare state, the NHS, the changed role of women in work, and Britain’s place in post-war Europe.
We bring everything — facilitator, VR headsets, replica artefacts, activity kits and resource packs. Book a full day to choose a different VR topic for every year group — making the visit specific to each class’s curriculum.
