About This Workshop

Help your students become powerful, independent learners

The Learn Effectively workshop gives students something most schools don't explicitly teach — how to learn. Through brain science made simple, memory experiments, and focus challenges, students discover that learning isn't about being 'clever' — it's about knowing which strategies work for them.

Every session is adapted to your year group. Reception and Year 1 explore learning through play, curiosity challenges, and simple brain games. Year 2 and 3 discover memory tricks, attention spans, and how practice changes the brain. Year 4 and 5 experiment with different revision techniques, spaced repetition, and metacognition. Year 6 build a personal learning strategy they can take into secondary school.

An energising opening that demonstrates how the brain warms up — comparing performance before and after targeted brain-boosting activities. Students see the science of readiness in action.

Students experiment with memory techniques — chunking, visualisation, storytelling, and association — competing in memory challenges to see which strategies work best for them.

Focus Challenge

Interactive activities that explore attention spans — how long can they focus, what breaks concentration, and what strategies help them get back on track. Includes mindful focus techniques.

Learning Style Discovery

Stations where students experience visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic learning — discovering their preferences and understanding that different tasks need different approaches.

Study Hack Station

Teams test evidence-based study techniques — spaced repetition, retrieval practice, and interleaving — comparing results and building their own study strategy.

6

Metacognition Mission

Year 5 and 6 students learn to think about their thinking — planning, monitoring, and evaluating their own learning. They create a personal learning profile to take into secondary school.
