Uncover the Anglo-Saxons who shaped medieval England

The Anglo-Saxons workshop uses immersive VR to transport Year 5 students to early medieval England. Children explore Anglo-Saxon villages, investigate the famous Sutton Hoo burial ship, and discover the transition from Roman Britain to the Anglo-Saxon period.

Students decode and write in runes, participate in shield wall formations, create Anglo-Saxon jewellery, and role-play in King Alfred's court. Through hands-on activities and VR exploration, they understand how the Anglo-Saxons bridged the gap between Roman Britain and the Viking age.

Book a full-day visit and choose a different VR topic for every year group — making it super specific to each class's curriculum and exceptional value for money.

What students take away

Every session is designed around measurable outcomes that align with the National Curriculum and build historical thinking skills.

Settlement and society understanding

Students understand how Anglo-Saxon communities lived, worked, and were governed.

Sutton Hoo significance

Students comprehend the importance of the Sutton Hoo burial in understanding Anglo-Saxon elite culture.

Runic literacy and communication

Students can read and write simple runes and understand this ancient writing system.

Continuity and change

Students recognise the transition from Roman to Anglo-Saxon to Viking England as interconnected periods.

Year 5 students were amazed by Sutton Hoo — they could see the wealth of artefacts and started asking about trade, craftspeople, and how that level of wealth was accumulated. It sparked complex historical thinking about society and economy.
