Safeguarding

Keeping children safe

Spark2 presenters work in your school, alongside your staff, with your children. This page sets out how they are checked and trained, who to contact if something concerns you, and what remains your school’s responsibility rather than ours.

If you have a concern

Follow your own school’s safeguarding procedure first. Your Designated Safeguarding Lead decides what happens next — nothing on this page changes that.

Where a concern involves a Spark2 presenter or our service, please also tell us the same day. Our named Child Protection Officer is Paul White, at paul@spark2.org. Email is our contact route for safeguarding matters.

Before a presenter works in your school

Every presenter, sub-contractor and volunteer completes our onboarding and vetting process before they are released for any school booking.

  • A DBS check for every child-facing role. The level of check is matched to the role, and includes a barred-list check where that applies.
  • Identity and right-to-work verification, with overseas checks where relevant.
  • Two references, and qualification checks where these are legally required.
  • Safeguarding training, completed before the first school visit.
  • A signed contract and code of conduct, plus delivery training on our materials and session method.
  • A central vetting record is kept, and written assurance is available to your school before delivery.

On the day of a visit

What your school should expect — and what we expect of ourselves.

  • Check the presenter’s photo ID and DBS certificate on arrival, in line with your own procedure.
  • Sign the presenter in and out, and give them your site safeguarding and emergency briefing.
  • Tell them your DSL route and any local expectations.
  • Keep a member of school staff present throughout. A Spark2 presenter must not be left alone with a child.
  • Use your own allegation and low-level-concern procedures for any concern about an adult, and notify us where appropriate.

What this is, and what it is not

Our pack is an assurance aid. It is not certification, legal advice or a guarantee of compliance, and it does not transfer any duty to us. Your school remains responsible for its own safeguarding arrangements, its filtering and monitoring, and its decisions about contractors.

The Future Skills Passport is not a complete PSHE or RSHE scheme and carries no external accreditation. Our Save a Life workshop is educational content, not accredited first-aid training.

The Future Skills Mark is Spark2’s own recognition scheme, awarded after our review of a school’s evidence. It is not an external accreditation.

Support for children and adults

Children can contact Childline free on 0800 1111, at any time. Adults worried about a child can call the NSPCC Helpline on 0800 028 0285. Our child-facing pages show the Childline number and tell children to speak to an adult they trust.
