Future Skills: AI Toolbox (NEW for 2026/27)

AI Workshops for Primary Schools

Hands-on AI literacy for 9-11s. Pupils discover what AI really is (and isn’t), spot the AI hiding in everyday apps and brands, learn to catch AI’s mistakes and AI-generated images, and practise writing clear prompts. Built for Hour of Code and the AI-in-education curriculum push.

Three big bookings windows for AI

AI sits across Computing (statutory), Citizenship (2028) and PSHE. These are the windows when AI bookings spike — build your year around them.

📅 Early December

Hour of Code / CS Ed Week

The biggest single AI booking window. Hour of Code is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of UK schools, with growing AI focus. Autumn-term slots fill from September — book by October for first pick.

📅 Year-round

Computing curriculum

The National Curriculum Computing strand explicitly covers algorithms and how machines ‘learn’. A Spark2 AI workshop covers a half-term’s worth of teaching in one focused day, with follow-up classroom resources.

📅 2028 Citizenship

Digital citizenship strand

The new 2028 Citizenship curriculum includes AI literacy as a digital citizenship strand. Schools planning ahead are already booking AI workshops to build evidence for the new statutory framework.

AI without the hype, hands-on without the homework

Every Y6 teacher has had ‘the ChatGPT conversation’ with their pupils by now. Most haven’t had time to teach what AI actually is, how it works, or what the difference is between training a model and asking a chatbot. The DfE’s 2024 guidance pushes schools to engage with AI literacy but doesn’t provide the curriculum. That’s where Spark2 comes in.

The AI Toolbox workshop is designed for pupils who have already met AI in the wild — Alexa, YouTube, ChatGPT, photo filters — and are full of questions. Through fast-paced, interactive challenges they discover what AI actually is, how it ‘learns’ from examples, why it gets things wrong, how to spot AI-generated images, and how to write clear prompts. No coding and no laptops required — just brilliant facilitation and a room full of curious minds.

The brand frame in our Future Skills programme is AI Toolbox. Same workshop, same brilliant facilitator team — the page title just uses the words parents and computing leads actually search for.

📜 Computing + Citizenship 2028

“Algorithms, machine learning & digital citizenship”

The National Curriculum Computing strand requires KS2 to teach algorithms and computational thinking. The 2028 Citizenship rule adds digital citizenship including AI literacy. DfE’s 2024 generative-AI guidance covers responsible classroom use.

Six activities that demystify AI

Every activity is fast, hands-on and discussion-led, adapted by year group. Younger pupils focus on recognising AI around them; older pupils dig into how AI learns, why it makes mistakes, and how to prompt it well.

1

Is This AI?

A fast, active game — pupils stand up for AI and sit down for not-AI. Alexa? Netflix? A toaster? A calculator? They quickly work out what makes something genuinely ‘artificial intelligence’.

2

Logo Detective

Pupils identify famous brands from their logos — Apple, YouTube, Google, Spotify, Amazon, Tesla — and uncover the AI working behind each one, from recommendations to voice recognition.

3

Spot the Silly Mistakes

Detectives hunt the tell-tale errors in AI-generated images — six-legged dogs, hands with too many fingers — building the critical eye to recognise AI-made content.

4

Train the Robot

Pupils discover how AI learns — show it lots of examples, it spots patterns, it makes predictions — plus the golden rule, ‘garbage in, garbage out’, so they understand why AI gets things wrong.

5

Asking Good Questions

The instructions we give AI are called prompts. Pupils compare vague vs clear prompts and learn to tell AI exactly what they want — the who, what, where and how.

6

Design Your AI Helper

The creative finale — pupils invent their own AI tool (a homework helper, recycling sorter or plant-care bot), deciding what problem it solves and what examples it would need to learn from.

What pupils take away

Every session is designed around measurable outcomes that align with Computing, Citizenship and PSHE digital wellbeing strands.

🤖

What AI is (and isn’t)

Pupils can explain how AI ‘learns’ from examples, recognise where they meet AI every day, and tell hype from reality.

⚠️

How AI learns (& why it errs)

Pupils understand that AI learns from examples, that ‘garbage in, garbage out’ matters, and why AI makes mistakes we need to check.

🔍

Critical media skills

Pupils can spot AI-generated images and evaluate online content with a critical eye.

💬

Prompt literacy

Pupils can write clear, effective AI prompts and understand why prompts matter — foundational future-skill.

Mission-led pricing for every school

AI literacy is too important to be a luxury. We’ve priced it so every school can afford a proper, hands-on day — not a generic AI assembly. Same facilitator team, same kit, same care.
