Part 01

How Rockets
Work

Rockets work by push and pull! Hot gas shoots out of the bottom, and this pushes the rocket up into the sky. It's like when you let go of a balloon and it flies around the room!

Did You Know?
The first rockets were fireworks! People in China made them a very long time ago. Fireworks and space rockets work the same way!

Balloon Rocket
Blow up a balloon and let it go. It flies around! That's how rockets work too.

Rockets carry special fuel. It burns and makes hot gas that pushes them up.

There is no air in space! Rockets have to take everything they need with them.

Part 02

The Big Rocket
& The Moon

A long time ago, people built a HUGE rocket called Saturn V. It was as tall as 36 houses stacked up! This giant rocket took astronauts all the way to the Moon.

"The Moon is very, very far away — it would take about 6 months to drive there in a car without stopping! But a rocket can get there in just 3 days."

Part 03

Rockets That
Come Back!

Rockets used to be thrown away after one trip! That's like throwing away your shoes after one walk. Now, clever people have made rockets that can fly back down and land on their feet. They can be used again and again!

One rocket has flown up to space and come back down more than 20 times! It lands standing up, all by itself. Clever rocket!

Going Back
to the Moon!

Guess what? We are going back to the Moon! A brand new rocket just took 4 astronauts on a trip around the Moon this year. Soon, people will walk on the Moon again. How exciting!
